It conducts scholarly and policy-oriented research and has produced a large number of publications on human rights, international criminal law, international humanitarian law, and post conflict justice. It has supported the development of the United Nations standards and norms in the field of international criminal justice and human rights.
ISISC has been providing technical assistance on the rule of law, due process, criminal procedure, and human rights issues in different countries, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and others
Many of the ISISC projects have been implemented in collaboration with UNODC and/or other PNI members. In 2007 ISISC compiled a set of guidelines and recommendations for a strategic, integrated plan for the future of Iraqi's Rule of Law, which was sponsored by the Office of the Prime Minister and all relevant Iraqi institutions. This set was prepared under the project "The Comprehensive Strategic Plan for Rule of Law and Justice in Iraq (CSPI)". This project was implemented with the involvement of key Iraqi Justice System institutions and with the support of UNODC and other international partners. ISISC also implemented the project "Iraqi Judicial Integrity", which has facilitated the adoption of the "United Nations Bangalore Principles of Judicial Conduct" by the Supreme Council of Judges of Iraq.
