UNODC Iran Delivers the Procured Sewing Machines to Civil Society Organizations in Tehran

  

Tehran, 18 Jan. 23 – The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Iran has procured sewing machines and related equipment under the gracious funding received from the European Union delivered to the Talie Hamraz Noandish Institute in Tehran.

UNODC Iran under its Sub-Programme 3 on “Drug Use Prevention, Treatment, Rehabilitation, and HIV Care” in line with its mission to enhance comprehensive and evidence-based drug use prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and social reintegration, with special emphasis on the high-risk groups, and in coordination with the Drug Control Headquarters (DCHQ), has continued its efforts to support Tehran centre to enhance the level of services provided for help-seekers especially recovered women and youth with a history of substance abuse.

Hamraz Noandish Institute has initiated its activity in 2014 with the core purpose of providing services related to the prevention of addiction, social education with the approach of preventing social harms, and related services that lead to the improvement of mental and social health of rights holders. In line with its mandate, the institute has established the Yas employment workshop in Qom Road, producing a line of undergarments to create the opportunity to teach and support its personnel, consisting of women head of households married to  men who use drugs, as well as young women and men recovered from drug use,  working with sewing devices and earn their living.

The delivered items were previously inspected by Mr. Alexander Fedulov, UNODC Iran Country Representative, on 25 October 2022. The items consist of industrial ironing devices, electric scissors, embroidery machine, fusing machines, button press machines etc. The devices would be installed in the sewing workshop of the institute to provide support to women head of household and recovered men and women drug users in earning a living and supporting their families and dependents. By supporting the empowerment of young people and improving family functioning by earning a living, UNODC Iran is protecting children and their families from the harms of drugs.
