In Transparency International's annual survey of the extent of corruption in different countries, India cuts a sorry figure as number 85, a good 13 notches below its ranking 72nd in the 2007 survey.
Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh may fare worse on the index, but they ought not to be our models...
