August 2008- Draft Document: UNODC/WHO/UNAIDS Policy Statement on HIV Testing and Counselling in Prison and Other Closed Settings

This document promotes a strategy for improving access to HIV testing and counselling in prisons as part of a comprehensive HIV programme, including information and education; provision of condoms and sterile injecting equipment; drug dependence treatment, in particular, opioid substitution therapy (OST); prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) and HIV treatment, care and support including the prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), tuberculosis (TB) and other opportunistic infections (OIs).

Readers who would like to receive a preliminary copy of this draft document , which is now available in English, French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic and Chinese, and provide comments and inputs to add to its contents, can send an e-mail to hivtc@who.int ; a notice has also been put on UNODC and WHO website .

Comments and suggestions should  be sent back to this address by October 7, 2008 .
